Writing a blog... Is it easy to do? What will it do for me and most of all what will you get from it? Will we enjoy this or simply hate it and close the browser, never ever to stumble across this blogging scene again? Odds are I'm more nervous than you right now, so this will be my first hurdle and I'm going to leap over it into a fully fledged miniture travel blog. I'll keep it snappy, maybe snazzy, but mainly light-heartedly humoured and easy on your kind eyes.
So, what makes a person a 'Traveller'?
- Someone who has literally 'globe-trotted' the Earth
- tasted all the fine wines (only to spit it out again)
- partied on a beach from sunset to sunrise
- been to the moon and back AND got the t-shirt?
Hmm, at least, that's not what I had in mind.
To me, a traveller is anyone who has left their home and opened their eyes to somewhere new.
If you think you have experienced any of the following;
- had your very breath snatched away by a beautiful scene of nature
- found your mind puzzling, yet enjoying, a different way of living everyday life
- your ears being confused by new sounds that you think are words emitting from another human being's mouth
- or you find yourself somewhere unfamiliar but you appreciate every single detail of it
then I think you can say you have travelled, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!
If we can keep our travel memories somewhere sacred, somewhere it is appreciated and remembered for years to come, then that very memory can be adored by everyone. Your memory is like a blog; something you give to others to be savoured and maybe, if we're lucky, loved by others.
So, I'm just going to put this out there and say, that a blog is like a tree. Not specifically the picture of the tree in this blog, but I'm sure you can understand what I mean. A seed is planted and grows into something magnificent, with branches of grandeur and adventurous leaves that see more of the world than most.
This brings me to the picture on my first blog post. It is an image and a place that I will never forget as it represents how I want to live my life. It is called the 'Sai-Ngam (Sigh-Ngaam) Banyan Tree', a sacred tree that has interweaving branches covering over 1,300 square meters of land, creating a world of mystical shielding roots. It truly is the meaning of ancient, but it still lives on. It resides in Thailand, a few hours drive to the north of the bustling city of Bangkok. A country that I think about everyday and also the country where I was born. This tree is shown incredible amounts of respect, and is celebrated by the Thai people. I think it is truly beautiful, and a perfect beginning for my upcoming blogs.
Well, that wasn't as difficult as I'd feared, so I have no excuse to stop blogging from here.
Thank you,
E.J.L
