This may be my last blog as I enter the realms of the unwell. My family tell me I have a cold but I know better. I have clearly caught something terrible in Hong Kong and may not last the night – cough cough splutter.
Thankfully we have now left the Kong (as we old hands call it) and flew through the night to a very cold but crisp Melbourne. It was impossible to sleep on the flight so we all arrived at 8.00 in the morning having had no sleep and feeling a little smelly. We were not allowed in our room until one, a decision the hostel quickly regretted when 4 very tired and very smelly Pughs went to sleep on sofas in a communal TV room scaring visitors and staff alike.
However tired we were I had discovered that the Melbourne Storm were playing the Brisbane Broncos at a top of the table clash that evening so I made everyone get up and walk (yes walk) several miles to the rugby ground where we sat in sub zero temperatures in our Leeds shirts shouting and drinking rum (a slight deviation from the norm).
Marvellous game though the wrong team won (look it up if you want to know). They know how to put on a show though with fireworks when the team come on and score, attractive cheer leaders who can dance in time and ridiculously loud music. None of which compare to the ludicrous mascot who drives around on a quad bike, plays a cow bell whilst wearing a skin tight purple catsuit.
Today, instead of paying for an organised trip, I forced my family on public transport to a wildlife sanctuary 60 miles out of Melbourne. It was 2 hours there and 2 hours back but I saved around £3.00 so was well worth it!
The saving was spent on me having a kebab – I’m so ill but reasonably happy I may stay a little longer though I have put emergency transport on notice.
See you soon (cough cough cough)
