A quick hour and three quarter flight from East Midlands Airport and we arrived in Venice Treviso Airport at around 3pm. Picking up our little Fiat Bravo hire car we then made our way an hour and a half west to the south shore of lake Garda and the old fortress town of Sirmeone. On arrival to the town we had to stop at a checkpoint and report to a little police hut as no cars are allowed inside unless you are resident at a hotel, they even check your name to make sure before allowing you inside in your car, . Driving at no more than walking pace through the winding narrow streets we eventually found Hotel Marconi and were quickly greeted with the concierge coming out into the car park to welcome us. A lovely little hotel with about a dozen rooms right in the centre and also right on the lake side of Lake Garda. We upgraded our room just prior the leaving the UK to one right in the front with views to die for. Bags quickly in the room and out to explore and to do a little shopping for a few drinks for the room. A lovely meal followed in a near by restaurant with a bottle of lovely local wing called lugana which we would highly recommend, stopping off at a bar for a few drinks we bumped into a couple for the UK called Laura and James, funnily enough he was English and she American. Well about four hours later and the largest Vodka red bulls we have ever seen the bar was closing up and off back to the hotel we staggered. A lovely first night even if a little later than we expected.
