G'day you flamin' g'lahs!
And welcome to Sydney! Yesterday was Amanda's 28th birthday, so we decided to blow the budget and hit the town!
We went to Pancakes on the Rocks (again, our trip revolves around food covered in maple syrup) for breakfast before taking the ferry across the harbour to Taronga Zoo. This is prime real estate with views of the amazing Opera House and the Harbour Bridge...where the residents are koalas, giraffes and lions. Bizarre. But a great day out.
After that we chilled out in the Royal Botanic Gardens, it is like a 17 hectare sunny Forbury Gardens...before getting ready for our night out. We stayed close to the harbour as there are so many bars and restaurants to choose from, and the views are incredible. First we went to the Ice Bar, where you don silly coats, boots and gloves, and walk into a glorified freezer. It was -18 degrees in there and you drink your cocktails from ice glasses! It was really, erm, cool. The bar, the seats, the sculptures, everything was made from ice.
Then, and you guessed it, it was time to eat. We went to Wolfies Grill - where we had the most amazing seafood and some interesting meats (sorry Skippy!). We had front row seats for views of the opera house and the bridge all lit up. It was a great day and a very good birthday - one that Amanda won't forget for a while!
In between eating we have seen the Opera House, the Museum of Sydney, Darling Harbour, the Harbour Bridge and about to head down to Bondi beach today. We've still got the bridge climb, surfing lesson at Manly, BBQing our dinner at Phillip's Foote restaurant, a harbour cruise, a day-trip to the Blue Mountains and cuddling Koalas stlll to go! We'll give you all another update when we finish in Sydney - there is still a week and a half to go here!
Thank you for all of your messages, it is great to hear how you all are at home - keep them coming!
Talk soon,
Tim and Amanda xxx
