Newcastle/Great North Run 2008
"Don't worry Jimmy, I know all the words to this, I can sing it to you! Gladiators..."
The immortal quote, spoken by my running buddy Lee, during the Great North Run, and a quote that was spoken mere seconds after his attempt at rapping along to Eminem! The one thing it truly confirmed, is that to have any hope of really saying you enjoyed running a gruelling 13.1 miles, is to run alongside a rather foolish friend!
I recommend the run to anyone, not only because you are doing something truly fantastic for charity (I managed to raise just under £600 for Cancer Research) but also because you are totally pumped for hours after, and will discover the delights of some well earned food and beers!! I hope that by giving you two years notice, I will raise even more money in 2010 when I plan to run again, and hopefully improve upon my time.
Newcastle is a fantastic city, with many beautiful sights, which can handily be discovered in about a day of walking, with St James' Park being a bit of a highlight. Espeically when a local boy has broken into the grounds for you and provides you the opportunity to take a few snaps inside the stadium. Of course St James' Park is nothing in comparison to the vastly superior Old Trafford!
I know little of the nightlife of Newcastle, as my accomplies to the run, were not in a fit state to go anywhere after the run, except for the local off license and pizza take away! However I do suggest a lovely little bar near the station, where I hear it is best to sample Newcastle Brown Ale, if thats your thing.
With this being my trial blog as such, I hope I have not bored you all and hope you come back soon for more stories about me and my travels! A good time to mention that I leave on my round the world trip in 6 days, cannot wait, should be awesome!
