Me and Ronald (the rucksack) arrived back in Bangkok two days a go after visiting Ko Tao, Ko PhaNang and Ko Samui. Staying near the famous Khoa San Road it can be pretty daunting for a solo traveller. At first look its a sea of people, market stalls, food trucks and people screaming at each other in Thai but when you take the plunge and look a bit closer its incredible. It may be hot, dirty and smell a bit odd in places but its lively and exciting. In the ten minute walk from my hotel I came across whole frogs, maggots and locusts on a BBQ, saw a gigantic rat, and literally walked into a thai boxing match. Aside from nearly getting run over by motor bikes about 50 times, in fact I nearly got run over by a motor bike with a whole SHOP on the side of it, other than that it was a great walk! Crossing the street is basically a no no, I just picked the side that looked most interesting and stuck with it. Of course with my awful sense of direction this is also a sensible idea. The only slightly shocking (well more so than Kermit being cooked and me nearly getting knocked out) was tripping over a man who was asleep in the middle of the street. Poor guy maybe he struggled with the roads as well and couldn't get home.....
