we arrived in ohrid in the evening off a short bus ride from skopje. we were hounded by people offering rooms to rent but we made it through the madness to find a fairly sound taxi driver. who instead of taking us to our hostel which was in old town took us to edge of old town and walked us the rest of the way because it is more expensive to drive to old town he was so decent.
he had on his roof badges and pins etc form lots of countries that passengers have given him over the years.
we amde it too the hostel whcih had a breath taking view of the lake especially by night.
we dumped ou bags and as soon as poss headed for the water for an evening swim which was magnificant.
we had a small alcove all to ourselves with a bar nearby playing bob marley style music it couldnt get more heavenly.
the water was so clear and refreshing and full of fish whcih would just hit in to you as if your no there.
after our night swim we went to hostel and chatted with a guy called richie from austrailia till sunrise.
we had wanted to see it rise over the mountains behind the lake but just as the sun rose clouds got in the way.... pity but we tried
it did leave us tired for the next day but took it easy strolled through the main street and sea front but it wa jammed pack full of tourist which was quite overwhelming.
we were hoping to get a boat ride around the lake and found one guy with excellent english but was charging us 50 euro total rip off we eventually found a nice guy with no english who charged 5 euro each much more reasonable.
it was lovely and we asked to be dropped of at kaneo beach where we were last night but sadly it was way more busy now but we put our feet in the water and chilled for a while
then very quickly the wind picked up and everone started to scurry about boats pulled into shore formt he lake and it staretd to rain. we though a storm might be brewing but then just as quckly it was gone. {we foun out later there was a storm on the albanian side of the lake so we just caught the very edge of it briefly}
then we headed up to st jovan the most famous church in ohrid {there is 365 churches altogether} famous for its view sof the lake as it is very high up and on the edge
we were stunned by the sheer beauty of the place but we wish we could remove all the people.
there was a summer festival going on in ohrid so we got tickets to see a classical music concert in st sofia a beautiful church in the very centre of ohrid old town. the sound was incredible in there.
midori {japanese violinst}was playing accompanied by piano they did four sets of different pieces i loved the bach pieces {siney}
after that we headed back to the hostel for a relatively early night we had an israili and brazilian girl in our room who were great criac they were med students.
gotta run
