Tungjatjeta Everyone,
We are in mad mad Tirana (Tyrannosaurus Rex!), which is the capitol of Albania. It took us the whole day yesterday to get here. This is a long story, get comfy!
We took a taxi from Ohrid to Struga (fun place name to say) to find that the only bus before 11.30pm was fully booked up. Thankfully we found the Lefevre family - French family of five - with whom we took two taxis to the border of Albania and walked across. Quickest boarder crossing ever! The booked out bus was left behind in our dust trail, hahahahaha. We then found another two taxis who drove us to Tirana along the windy, windy mountain road in the depths of the green countryside. We had food and coffee breaks, including sampling the local beer, Pegas, in a 3 pint-size huge glass!
Found hostel fine and the Frenchies refused to let us pay them for the taxi! We met up with the eldest son Raphael for a drink in the party district of Tirana that night (hi Raph!). All together a brilliantly fun day of banter.
Today, after a sleep-in of sorts we endulged in a lovely hostel breakfast of watermelon, bread, jam, salami and cheese... mmm. We've been wandering around the city centre, its a hot hot day! Booked a bus to Budva, Montenegro and a hostel, but bus leaves at 6am tomorrow :(
A few observations of Albania: again mad drivers who overuse their horns! The streets were surprisingly empty at 3am, so the partying does stop here eventually. It isa fairly clean place, although the grassy areas did smell a bit weird... yucky weird. The water is running low at the moment so we've had to be careful when using it in the hostel. A few guys have heckled us from their cars but no hassle :)
Looking forward to sitting on some nice beaches and water to swim in!
Love you all,
