After I good kip and plenty of Keeping up with the Kardashians re runs we land to the bright lights of Las Vegas. We can see the strip as we land and instantly get really excited. We quickly made our way through the airport, which had every advertisement imaginable about the Vegas shows, hanging from the ceilings, and holiday makers spending their last dollars in the rows of slot machines. Once outside we instantly felt that change in climate. McCarran Airport is located directly at the bottom of the Las Vegas strip, so the journey was speedy and cheap. We were dropped at the grand entrance to our hotel, and where so amazed and excited to be there. We checked in to find out room wasn't ready for us, with left over alcohol bottles and the TV on, so I attempted a little complaint to try and get us to the penthouse suite (Just like 'What happened in Vegas') but with no luck. The next room had a better view, but the light didn't work. I was so tempted to ask for the manager, but really didn't have the guts. We debated whether to go and explore but as it was late, and were slightly jet lagged again, so we decided to be rested for the first day in Vegas.
We started the next morning with a hearty McDonald's breakfast in our hotel. I say we, but I mean just me as Si opted for a takeaway cooked breakfast from the other counter. We went out to explore and just didn't know where to start, and didn't anticipate the grandeur and size of all the hotels. We started with hotel New York New York, and walked through the casino and the gridded streets, with many restaurants, Irish bars and cute cafes. We ended up in the arcades, which is much more my scene. I beat Si numerous times on basketball shoot out, had a go on the dance machine, and ended up making a hilarious Boogie Head video in a booth. Basically you are in a slightly larger photo booth, and you put your heads in the gap provided and you choose a song to mime to. When the song plays the idea is to mime and perform to the song, whilst the computer is animating a little body. You are then rewarded with a DVD to take home and show to your bemused family and friends. It was well worth $10. We headed onto the MGM Grand hotel, which was much bigger. We walked along the strip and looked into going to the Grand Canyon, which we found was more expensive than first anticipated. The strip was getting busier and the sun was beaming down. The size of the strip is just huge. For example each side of the road has 6 lanes. To cross the road you take an escalator up to a massive bridge, or you have to find the little zebra crossings there are and wait ages for it to be your turn to cross. There is no way you want to risk running a light, more for your safety because of the amount, of cars, cabs and busses, but also you will get fined if caught. We had a mooch around the new development called City Centre. There are no themes to these hotels just pure luxury and modern elegance. We continued our walk and headed into the Bellagio. We walked through the designer shops and impressive Casino to the all you can eat Buffet. Si was in his element and ended up filling himself up for the rest of the day. After lunch we headed over the road to Paris. We were stopped by a woman trying to give us free passes to the clubs. Now I normally don't take interest in this, but I felt out the loop with where to go and what was open etc. So we stopped and she chatted nonstop about the best places to go as it was a weekday, and gave us an impressive itinerary to stick to over the next 3 nights. We gave her $20 for her time, I knew we had been done, but it felt good to know some info and what hotels to go to. We then went to into the Mirage, and also checked out the nightclub we were due to party at that night, Jet. I spoke to the guy on the door, and he put us on the guest list and said I would get free drinks until 12pm as I was a girl. We took the free tram over the Treasure Island to pick up our cirque de soleil tickets. This hotel definitely wasn't as impressive, and I think they are trying to rebrand it as TI. Out the front stands a full blown pirate ship and nightly the girls perform a tantalizing show. We hadn't even taken in half the strip but it was time walk back to our hotel to get ready for the night and show. We caught the Bellagio Water show on the way back, which is remarkably synchronised to music. We stopped off to buy some wine (their bottles are twice the size of ours) and beers to get us going. After a quick nap we headed out to start the stroll down to Treasure Island. We did not foresee that it was going to be really windy and cold. I clomped down the strip in my heels, shivering and trying to hold my dress down that kept blowing up for all to see in the wind. I just wanted to grab a cab, but it's easier said than done. We sat down for the show in the freezing auditorium. It was defiantly an impressive show, and also very weird, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was the time to head over to Jet to start our night, but I was absolutely shattered and freezing and I couldn't think of anything worse. So Si and I decided to be party poopers, and we headed back to our hotel to drink our wine and sleep.
Day 2 started with another McDonald's breakfast, and then onto the strip for more exploring. We ended up in Caesars Palace, Paris, Flamingo and the Venetian. We walked up the Grand Canal and tried to figure out where to eat. Si wanted another buffet, but I really didn't want to. So after loads of walking we ended up in Serendipity outside Caesars Palace. The original restaurant is in New York, but had now been expanded to Vegas. We ate huge burgers and hotdogs and felt incredibly sick after a mammoth chocolate, ice cream and cookie sundae. We sat in the sun with a drink relaxing and watching the world go by. I was then gutted I wasn't lying around a pool soaking up the rays. We went for some more slots gambling in Paris, and I cashed in my winnings of $10 and spent it on a necklace from H+M on our stroll back through the Miracle Mile shops. On our way back we had to have a go on the legendary rollercoaster at hotel New York, New York. We paid our $14 and got straight on. I am never normally scared but with the rollercoaster situated on the hotel you are really quite high up. It was actually a really good rollercoaster with plenty of dips, stomach churning moments, corkscrews and loops. We were planning on having a good night out tonight so went back to start drinking and getting ready. After many drinks, chats and club vouchers in hand we headed out to start our first proper night out in Vegas. Si was so determined to have the night of his life in Vegas that the drink seemed to of gone to his head very quickly. I suggested some dinner in our hotel so we headed for noodles. Well, it all went downhill from there. Once the food for 2 was ordered Si informed me he wasn't hungry and that he didn't feel good. I rushed down the meal for 2, as best I could in silence as Si sat there rocking back and forth. To be honest I don't think he really knew where he was. After frantically paying and taking a doggy bag as respect we headed back upstairs for Si to throw his guts up for the next hour. We were back in bed at 10.30pm. Good one.
We wake up for our last full day, and plan to get to the rest of the strip. I eat another McDonald's and realise that this is getting ridiculous now. Si is suffering slightly, but there is no rest for the wicked. We head over to the MGM to check out the lion enclosure and the CSI experience. We then buy a 24 pass for the hop on bus that goes up and down the strip. We head up to the very top of the strip, to Fremont Street. It is actually quite far away from the main strip, and you definitely wouldn't be able to walk. We passed the middle ground, which was filled with cheap looking motels, dingy bars and strip clubs. We even drove past a drive thru Wedding Chapel. Fremont Street is old School Vegas, and you know it best for the tunnel of lights above your head. Sadly for us as it was day time, so we didn't get to see the lights. The Fremont experience is defiantly tackier than the main strip. It is very cheap to gamble and buy food and drinks. We indulged in a Krispy Kreme donut and then headed back down on the bus to the Stratosphere. We paid our ticket price to travel to the top to get the best views in Vegas. We also had the option of upgrading our tickets to go on the thrill rides at the top. I quickly declined. I obviously have a sudden fear for heights and thrill seeking. The views where impressive and we watched the planes take off from the airport. You get to see the size of Las Vegas as a whole, and how small the main strip with the hotel seems. We spotted plenty golf courses and could see the snow on the nearby mountains. We watched in discomfort as people were shot headfirst over the edge of the tower, and others shot into the air on top of the tower. After plenty of picture taking we headed back down to grab some pizza before heading back down to the main strip. We went into Circus Circus, which automatically looked rundown and dingy. It really wasn't impressive; we ended up watching some circus acts and having a go on the fun fair games. We continued our walk and into Wynn. This is a 5 star Forbes winning hotel. It is full to the brim with class and diligence, and is oozing with designer shops and award winning restaurants. We realised we had to head back then as we had bought Lion King tickets for that night, and needed to get ready and grab dinner. We had to grab a yummy McDonald's before rushing off in a taxi downtown to Mandalay Bay. It was my 4th time watching the show, but it was still amazing. After we had a lush cocktail in an Irish pub, and the plan was to mission it back up the strip to watch the Bellagio water show at night. We walked through the Luxor into the Excalibur, and got lost trying to get out. We painstakingly walked up the strip, but stupidly didn't cross at the right crossing and ended up having to watch the show from the other side of the road. Unluckily for us this was the last show of the night. We then had to meticulously walk all the way back. We where cold, tired and fed up off walking so we bought more wine and retired to the hotel.
Once packed and checked out we headed to The Sugar Factory for delicious pancakes, and then attempted to spend our left over dollars' in the miracle mile. I bought souvenirs and Body Shop goodies. We passed the time with some more slot play and walking around. We where sad to say goodbye to Vegas, but we shared a cab to the airport, which was then paid for by an American here on business (business in Vegas, Really?) Once through Security we found ourselves indulging in a Burger King before we got our first flight to Minneapolis. Luckily we took off on time, so we could catch our connecting flight to Heathrow. Once we boarded I rested my head, and fell asleep for the entire journey home. On landing in London we flew over the city and picked out all the sights, and then landed to Si's parents to take us home.
