We left Las Vegas at around 4pm to head towards Kingman, Arizona which was only an hour and a half away. As we left Las Vegas we notieced that the landscape became quite different. There were a lot more mountains and rocks, it felt like the road we were on was cut out in between a mountain range. It was amazing, we came to a dip in the highway and ahead of usw was this beautiful waterway - truly an oasis in the middle of the desert. We later found out that this beautiful waterway was the Colorado River.
We got to Kingman and settled for the night. The next morning we went to have breakfast at the hotel cafe and met another Aussie family. They seemed like lovely people, little did we know that this would be the start of a lifelong friendship.
We soon found that the Rowlands' (that was their surname) were also road tripping across the States, and as it turned out, they were travelling the same route as we were!!! We exchanged phone numbers with them and told them that we may see them at our next stop, which was Holbrook.
We started to drive to The Grand Canyon. I didn't know what to expect from The Grand Canyon, to be honest, I just assumed that it would be a bunch of mountain ranges ... to be brutally honest, I deep down thought that this was going to be a waste of time, but new we had to do it for the kids. Well ... I'm so glad I had such low expectations!!
When we got there, we took a bus / shuttle to the sight seeing points, when we got out of the bus my jaw dropped!! All of a sudden I was consumed with raw emotion, I couldn't speak. As I looked out to the Canyon all I could see was raw beauty ... inexplicable beauty. There are still no words to describe this natural phenomenon. Everything was eerily silent, the people was silent, the atmosphere was silent, the world felt like it literally stood still! It was just still - all I wanted to do was meditate.
As I stood there looking out at the Canyon I felt that I was so mesmerised by the beauty of this natural wonder of the world that I was already meditating. I couldn't hear a thing, just by heart beating and the silent tears that escaped from my eyes. I felt so alive and caught in the moment, I felt that time stood still for me and that all I was seeing was such a blessing. I thanked God for giving us this opportunity to experience this wonder, I also thanked God for showing me what it felt like to experience the wonder of his love.
We left the Grand Canyon with a new found appreciate for God and Mother Earth. We all as a family felt so truly blessed that we were able to experience such beauty together as a family. This moment in our trip was one that will stay with us all in our heart and mind forever.
