Our very fast train from Barcelona southwest to Cordoba was travelling in excess of 300 kph a lot of the time!!!!
Haven't been on a train for years, and never on a Very Fast Train. We did 940kms in 4 hrs 25 mins. Wooooosh!!
When we passed through tunnels my ears were pressurised.
We travelled mostly through valleys with mountains in the distance. Only saw one mountain with any snow on it. Much of the landscape was very dry looking though there were market gardens and olive groves in the first half hour when we were closer to the coast. There was crop stubble in some places then crops just peeping their green out in others. Didn't seem the right time of the year to see germinating crops. We even saw a couple of centre pivot irrigation sprinklers.
There were communities dotted in the landscape all the way. The buildings in these appeared to be more adobe like. We stopped at a couple of big towns. These towns had many massive apartment blocks.
The day started off with bright blue skies. There was a lot of fog for about half an hour. Then towards the south the clouds built up. It was much wetter in the southern region as we approached Cordoba and we saw our first farm animals - cows, sheep and horses.
Our hotel was about 15 minutes walk from the station. Some of the streets were cobbled but my little wheelie case followed me faithfully no trouble. I've only got a carry on sized bag (that I checked in on our flight) and a backpack the same size (that I used as cabin luggage). I agonised what type of luggage to bring but so far think I made the right choice.
Cordoba here we come.
