Jackman Travels
We stayed at the perfectly fine Ban Don hotel, and treated ourselves to an air con room, for 450 bahts, after the sultry forest nights. This hotel was recommended in guide books because, unlike many other hotels of this city, you won't be disturbed by other guests *ahem* taking advantage of 'by the hour' rates! There was a good (and cheap!) internet cafe on the lane at the side ofhe hotel, so spent our time updating earlier posts of this blog of course.
The most exciting experience to note here was our dinner. The Chinese restaurant below our hotel was closed so we turned right and kept walking until we came to a restaurant very popular with the locals, which is always a good sign. It has no English name but green decor and one Chinese-origin Thai mamma cooking food on one gas hob with a giant wok. As well as no name it also had no menu, in any language. We walked in the woman said the word 'fish' at us we nodded and five minutes later we were served a delicious dish of stir fried fish in garlic and oyster sauce with a side of rice. If we knew Thai we could have asked for many other dishes as the local patrons did but this was just what the doctor ordered. We cleared our plates to the delight of the cooking woman and the other restaurant goers too.
And, of course, walking home, we saw an elephant wandering down the street. Seriously. Must have been something special in that stir-fry.
Tomorrow we take the Song Serm "express" boat to Ko Tao and our final leg and beach of our travels.
