The bus trip from PP to Siem Reap was another interesting one. I just could get bored of watching how the local people lived and the kids going to and from school. Very kool. Arrived much earlier than we thought- to the bus station where there was a huge gaggle of men offering accomodation and free tuktuks. Had already arranged with the last guy to go to one guesthouse so followed the guy with our names on a card- fame for you!
Pretty kool guest house run by youngish local blokes. They were really helpful with everything and always knew a guy who could help us. That evening went to Angkor Wat for sunset along with the tons of other people- it was still kinda kool and got some good photos! It is pretty impressive as you rock up on your tuk tuk and lots of people were out having picnics by the lake. That night went to bar street ( which felt like I was on holiday in spain or morroco) and spent the evening back in the GH chatting to the locals and eating crackers and seeds. I havnt managed to include a food section in this blog but if i had there would be a few interesting things to write up. All kinds of fish and bugs - yumy!! Neways the cambodian people are so nice! Really accomodating and eagar to talk to you about the country- they share'd all their food and drink even tho they really cant earn that much! They seem to have picked up quite alot of sarcastic humor too - one guy was moaning because his country was so expensive he had to eat dry noodles and then drink water so they expand and keep him full for the day. I hope he was jokin- he did call himself Justin Timberlake. A couple of the girls staying their had been working for a german NGO in a local villaege- it was really heartbreaking I suppose to hear about the real poverty that exists around the area, outside the little world of the tourist. Makes me want to stay! .....
Next day was Angkor wat. Got up at 4.00 grrr to watch the sunrise then managed 6 hours of walking around the temples. Finsished the day by watching tomb raider with the rest of the guesthouse to pick out the bits of Angkor- kool. Chicken amoke- yummy cambodian curry thing! Was tired then went to bed. zzzzz
