Kuala Lumpur was busy and full of contrasts, so many different cultures packed into one city. I stayed in Chinatown right near the market which was great location. I met up with 2 of the girls I had been with at the Perhentian Islands which was great. We went to the Batu Caves where you climb hundreds of steps to reach a temple inside the caves, the steps are swarming with monkeys, you have to be careful not to look them in the eye otherwise theyl jump on you! Also went to a huge shopping Mall called Times Square - it has a rollercoaster inside! saw Transformers 2 at the IMAX one evening. Also went to get a massage done and had a fish massage where you put your feet in a pool full of tiny fish that nibble at your feet!! very ticklish!! Also met the guys id been with at Taman Negara so we all went out to Reggae Bar which was a lot of fun. Went to the TV tower and Petronas Towers but didnt climb up as it was quite overcast so wouldnt have been able to see much but it still looked awesome as we went in the evening when its all lit up.
On the 8th I got a flight to Siem Reap where I met Laura from volunteering and her 2 friends. Was great to see her again and after catching up we went to see the sunset at the temples. Next morning we got up treally early and saw the sunrise at Angkor Wat - stunning! We had a guide to take us round and did a day tour which was plenty, someppl stay for days and days but by the end of the day we felt like we had seen enough temples! Angkor Wat was fascinating, Angkor Thom was crazy cos its covered in huge trees that have grown inside, around and over it and its where Lara Croft and Indianna Jones were filmed. Bayon is also really cool with huge smiling faces.
We then made our way by bus to Phnom Penh and have seen the S21 museum and Killing Fields which are shocking and scary but, like Auschwitz, I actually found it more interesting than scary beacuse of the way it is presented. Phnom Penh has really noticable poverty but everyone still seems really happy and always saying hello. Children constantly ask for money and handouts and we were told by our guide at Angkor that the best thing is to ignore them which feels horrible but it does stop them, you shouldnt give to begging children unless they are actually selling something like books because it just escalates the problem.
Im staying In Phnom Penh till wednesday while I for my Vietnam visa, will then go to Kratie and the south coast for the beaches before heading into Vietnam. Laura had to leave this morning but iv already met a bunch of other ppl at my guesthouse.
