Arrived in Alice Springs to a torrential downpour, their first in months. Lucky me! Had a day to kill before going to Ayers Rock on my camping trip. Alice Springs is a pretty small place, something crazy like 5 blocks wide, so there's not a lot to do. I walked up Anzac Hill which is at one end of the town and gives a good view of the town and surrounding hills. Also visited the Flying Doctors Museum which was kind of interesting, I want to be a Flying Doctor when I grow up!! I then popped into a museum celebrating pioneer women of Australia. I thought I'd just see what it was about but it was empty and there were 2 old ladies who seemed quite excited about having a visitor so I got a personal tour and felt compelled to stay to see everything!
Apparently Alice is a bit dodgy so you're not supposed to go out at night, not even in a group. You have to take a taxi everywhere. Fortunately the hostel had a nice bar and restaurant so I jsut stayed in with some people I met there. The meals were a bargain at only $5, but did include camel burritos!
