We drove through Ohakune which is a little ski village and took a picture of the giant carrot there since it is the carrot capital of NZ apparently! It's been painted black in honour of the World Cup. We then drove to Taihape, a farming town, to try our hand at Gumboot throwing. The girls had to compete against each other in pairs and I was up against Kyrstn and I ended up launching the gumboot at teh ground at high speed reaching only a foot away. It turned out to be a popular throwing technique with the girls though! Then it was the boy' turn and Devon got the crowd laughing when he launched it so high up in the air that it went out of the arena.
We then had a long drive down to Wellingon. We'd signed up for the Lord of the Rings tour but the weather was so bad that we opted out and instead headed out to a coffee shop for hot chocolate and to take shelter fro the wind - they don't call it the windy city for nothing! We also decided to check out Te Ppa, NZ's Nationl Museum, which is n the harbour and were really impressed by the exhibitions, especially the one about volcanoe's as you can go inside a house and experience a simulated volcano.
We booked a table for 10 at an Indian and Malaysian restaurant as a special treat and got ready in the dorm for our first city night out. I was sharing with Marius, Heather, Dan, Sarah and Catherine. We ordered our curries and toasted our last night with Devon as he was finishing his tour with us. After dinner we joined Kyrstn and Gareth in an Irish bar and had some group photo's taken and then I played pool with the boys. I was playing with Devon against Gareth & Marius and then we switched teams. Then the others' joined us and we played killer pool.
Most of us went onto another Irish band where they had a band playing and Devon and I got up to dance and he ended up swinging me round to the music. I was getting really tired and as Stefan was also ready for bed we called it a night and I said my goodbyes to Devon. I was really sad as I would miss him as he was so mucgh fun and had been a good seat buddy. On the way back to the hostel Stefan and I heard some reeally good tunes coming from one of the bars so we decided to call in for a bit of a dance. When we dragged ourselves away from the dancefloor we ended up creeping into our rooms at the same time as the others' were going to bed.
