Day 5
We have just arrived in Middlesborough after a day exploring Heartbeat country. We stopped at Pickering train station also stopped at a Medieval village ruins. It was a bit of a walk to get to but worth it.
We had lunch at the Aidensfield Arms and visited the Scripps garage and the Post Office and Railway station. It rained a bit but it was still good. It was all a bit surreal walking into the pub knowing we had seen it so many times on TV.
We then headed off to Whitby where it was packed. People everywhere as it is 'summer' - still only 15 degrees or so. We skipped the main area and went to the west cliffs area where we saw the whalebone and Captain Cook monument we even had an ice cream. Whitby abbey is on the facing cliff so we had a good view of it.
We drove back up the coast and saw a 'beach' which was brown sand and cliff lined. Still lots of people around - i guess it is summer and Sunday. We drove back through the northyorkshire moors which are amazing and through so very pretty farming land. Where we are staying is in a quiet part of this city but it seems fairly industrial. We saw the famous bridge on the way in.
Off to Edinburgh tomorrow - just a bit excited about going to Scotland but fear it will be even colder.

Lyn Peters What an interesting journey you are having. It must have been strange to literally step into your favorite TV program. Make the most of it.
