We had a great time here, really enjoyed our stay. Personally I think that Litchfield is better than Kakadu but it is somewhat smaller and easier to see everything in a shorter time. We found a camp spot, Wangi Falls, that could accommodate larger vans (not easy sometimes) and spent 3 days looking around the area. Highly recommend Wangi, it has the easiest falls and pool to access, toilets and showers and even a little cafe.
We did many of the walks, most of which provided a swimming spot where there were no crocs - at least that's what we were told!!! The monsoon rainforests are very soothing, full of palms, ferns and large trees (and unfortunately, in many of them, full of bats also). Mostly there is a creek or river as well, very attractive. We did a bit of 4wdriving, even some creek crossings, saw historical ruins at an old tin mine and a homestead. Very primitive, life certainly was tough.
Nights were peaceful with very few mozzies to worry about and we could even hear the waterfall as we drifted off to sleep!!!
On the morning we were heading back out we stopped at Florence Falls which we had missed on the way in. Quite a climb down to the bottom of the falls, 140 steps which was OK going down but not so good on the climb back out!!! We didn't swim that time but enjoyed the ambiance of the cool gorge floor before heading back to the van, having morning tea and proceeding back to Batchelor, checking out the magnetic termite mounds along the way.
