Sorry for no blog entries until now folks, seems like the North Eastern part and Central part of Australia don't exactly have good wifi zones. So, alas, while Owen is still exploring 'down under', he has asked that I post some pictures of his journey so far.
He arrived safe and sound on December 2, in Cairns (pronounced Cans), Australia after travelling and flying for over 24 hours. LONG TRIP. He has not wasted one single moment. On day 1 of his stay we walked around Cairns and ended up having dinner and seeing a show that explains the aboriginal culture. Wednesday we drove up to the Daintree National Rainforest and hiked through the rainforest with "Dingo" our guide who explained the way of life for indigenous people living off the land. A very "refreshing" (code for COLD) swim in a freshwater gorge topped off the great but HOT day.
Thursday was an exciting day full of firsts. We took an hour and a half boat ride to get out to the outer banks of the Great Barrier reef. A day of many firsts: first scuba diving adventure on the Great Barrier reef and first helicopter flight which took us over the reef and the tropical rainforest.
On Friday we hopped back in the car for another adventure: in search of the elusive (and endangered) Platypus. SUCCESS!!! We finally saw them at dusk, in a little swimming hole that a local told us about. Very neat! Being a Friday afternoon, we naturally had to have tea - so we found a tea plantation and Owen served us some locally produced Nerada Tea and we learned how tea is produced in Australia!
Saturday, 'the boys' made there way by airplane to Uluru, at the centre of Australia. The temperature for that day was to be 39 degrees Celcius. As they continue their journey in Australia they will no doubt snap some more pictures and hopefully upload when they reach Sydney later this week.
It is an amazing, diverse country and Owen is having a great time!! He can't wait to share all his stories!
