Sundsvall
Unfortunately there are no airbnbs listed in sundsvall. Consequently, this meant lashing our on a hotel - triple the price of an airbnb... Well, we wanted a view and we got it... We knew northern sweden was going to be cold but nothing could prepare me for the bitter cold stinging winds when we decided to venture outside for our daily walk... Whilst I was thinking how on earth I could save my face from the pain, John could only think of throwing snowballs at me. This may sound like fun until one hits you in the chest. Not to mention, I was having iPhone issues.., what happened Steve Jobs? Didnt you think to test your phones in temps below 2 degrees!
After experiencing the artic winds, I needed a drink to warm me up, and no I didn't want a hot chocolate. Red wine for me and from the Loire valley, France to boot! At $22 a glass I wasn't going to make a night of it. Our kind bartender had a soft spot for Australians so he served me a generous portion. We enjoyed our evening overlooking sundsvall whilst devouring duck confit, lamb roast and desserts to die for... I love the berries in this part of the world, especially the cloud berries which featured heavily in my dessert whilst John enjoyed chocolate prepared three different ways... I can see our clothes are shrinking around our expanding bellies!
I love the way of life in sweden and how the swedes can go anywhere amongst the nature and pick the berries and wild mushrooms.. They can even pitch a tent anywhere they want, not that you would do this in winter!
