Woke up to a beautiful sunrise on our last morning inIreland and a decidedly unusual sight. Susie already awake! We had a delicious full breakfast and swapped stories with a lovely old English couple before packing up and heading to our final destination and departure point.
The drive today was pretty uneventful due to being back on "highways". We made good time and pulled into Wexford which is just north of Rosslare around two o'clock and stopped at a beach for a quick wetting of the feet in the Atlantic and gathered some shells and sand to bring home. After scouting out the ferry terminal we headed to the last place on our list for Ireland, The Lobster Pot. Located in the very small and out of the way town of Carne this place was a true hidden gem. Everything my brain could dream up that exemplified an Irish Pub was this place, short of a lingering cloud of pipe smoke. The service was excellent, the owner came and chatted with us for a while, and the food was to die for! Having recently won an award for best Gastro Pub they lived up to the accolade. We shared a baked crab Mornay dish to start which was delicious crab in a white sauce with cheese melted on top. For main we shared the Seafood Bake which was monkfish, scallop, prawn, mussel, salmon and squid in a similar sauce to the crab and with an identical cheese topping. The seafood all tasted like it had just been pulled out of the ocean, was so flavourful and fresh. For dessert we had baked pear and almond tarte with homemade raspberry ice cream.
I hope you're all drooling because I am remembering it. What a meal and experience, glad we made it out there and would highly recommend it to anyone even slightly in the area.
After supper we made our way to the ferry terminal and dropped of our car.the ferry boarded about half an hour later and we familiarized ourselves with the emergency procedures(yes I'm a nerd) and settled into our little cabin for the next eighteen hours. This ship is just a little bit bigger than what I'm used to(read freaking huge) and shakes and makes more noise but at least I don't have to wake up to go on watch in the middle of the night or respond to a fire drill! That's it for now and this will probably be posted together with tomorrow's post as there's no wifi on the ferry. Bon nuit!
