Low and behold when we returned from our jungle adventures our computer is working again. This despite the best Apple brains in Bangkok being of the opinion that the mother board was the problem. This restoration of our good luck may be a consequence of our recent conversion to Buddhism in Chang Mai. More of these adventures later.
We really liked Bangkok much more than we thought we would. Sure it's big, noisy, dirty in places and everyone is trying to rip you off but it is packed to the brim with wonderful things and teems with life and vitality. We took a tour on a long tailed boat up the river and into the canals where the people live. Modern houses sit side by side with wooden shacks which are sliding slowly into the water. Water snakes share the klongs with dead dogs and huge monitor lizards, someone thought they saw a crocodile. It was like Venice for poor people.
The temples and palace were the most colourful and spectacular that we have ever seen. The Wat Po golden Buddha is 47 m long and 15 m high - it is just an astonishing site. The grand palace is next door and is even more fabulous - surely the best site that we have ever seen. We took an audio tour and were rewarded with a fabulous experience. On the way home we got lost in Chinatown where there were streets and streets of used vehicle parts being recycled. There was a street of engines, another of gear boxes another of axles and springs.
In the evening our group had its fairwell dinner just off Khao San Road. This is where all the weirdos come to eat deep fried insects (scorpions 1 for £2) and party. Everything you can imagine was being bought and sold there.
We had our first Tuk Tuk ride back to our hotel. It's not for the faint hearted but we are now Tuk Tuk junkies.

Jimmy Smith JimandJacq H Robin and Susan, some wonderful photos of amazing sites keep the story going. It makes interesting reading especially for those who have not travelled in these parts! You haven't missed much golf! Weather closed in with lots of snow on course. Pleased for you about the computer - suspect a wee bit of damp which has now dried out - change of climate doesn't just affect old bones! keep the blog coming. J
