Helloo!! Welcome to my page, I gave y'all this link because I'd love it if you were right along with me on my trip to South Africa!
For those of you who aren't quite sure why you're here, I'll give you a little rundown of everything so far- So this July, I (slightly impulsively) decided not to go to school in Hawaii in the fall, instead I realized I didn't have to go to college, I could do lots of different things instead. Then, came a pretty intense internet search, until I stumbled upon the Dreams to Reality Foundation here in South Africa. I spend my weekdays off the coast of Muizenberg (anybody happen to watch Shark Week: South Africa?), working as a surf instructor in an afterschool program. Some mornings, I work at the school, teaching the kids before I throw on a wetsuit. These students come from impoverished homes where abuse and violence is not uncommon. Therefore, the Dreams to Reality Foundation helps to show the kids how to spend their afternoons and free time in a healthy, fun, and productive manner.
My trip dates are from September 13th to November 9th (if I decide to come home), and while I'll try my best to keep this blog updated with pictures and videos, feel free to message me anytime! I couldn't be more grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing program. Potential always overshadows poverty.
