Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
Hello everyone sorry it's been such a long time since we've written the journal we've just been having too much fun! We've done so much in Australia already and are only half way through. In Sydney we climbed the harbour bridge, rubber ringed off the back of a speedboat on the harbour (in fact in the most shark infested area which we weren't aware of until after!), visited the Olympic complex, Blue Mountains and Featherdale wildlife park and Home and Away's Summer Bay (Palm Beach). We walked through the Botanical Gardens to the Opera House and randomly ended up at the world's largest didgeridoo collection, and went out partying with Cameron and Mitch in Coogee.
From Sydney we took a coach up the coast to Byron Bay where we ended up staying for 3 nights. We had the most brilliant time staying in the backpackers village hostel, lounging on the beach watching all the surfers or around the hostel pool. We were staying in a dorm with an english guy Shah who showed us the best nightlife and made loads more really great friends, we were really sad to leave! The weather was gorgeous the whole time we were there. We also went on another dive out to Julian Rocks, supposed to be on of the best dive sights in Australia. There are loads of photos from the dive in one of our photo albums, we saw loggerhead turtles so close we could reach out and touch them, and different kinds of sharks and rays. The conditions were a lot different to where we learnt in Thailand, we couldn't see as far and it was difficult to swim in a straight line due to the very strong current. We also had to wear 5mm wetsuits with long sleeves and legs which were considerably thicker than the ones we learnt in so we were a little uncomfortable but nothing beat the bumpy ride in the little blow up speedboat out to the site, thank god we took those sea sickness tablets!
Right now we're still staying in Ipswich, which is near Brisbane, with Hannah's uncle Neil, and cousins Scarlett and Cooper, spending our time relaxing, sunbathing and watching them participate in various sports! We're just enjoying the aussie way of life, bbqs, beach and a bronchos match in Brisbane! Ipswich is a nice town, the old capital of Queensland and an old mining town. Like the rest of Oz, it's set amongst loads of mountains and everything is on a slant, so all the houses are the typical Queenslanders- on stilts! We've been into Brisbane a couple of times, visiting the museum, the manmade beach and main shopping street. We actually really enjoyed Brisbane although it seems to be the least popular place among other backpackers. There are also some beautiful beaches not too far away, we just had to make sure we stayed inside the shark nets! We also took a boat trip to Surfers Paradise past a little island where the beautiful houses right on the sea sold for millions.
