Annabel's Amazing Adventures (nah nah nah nah naaa
Leaving Rotorua soon for Wellington and don't expect to do much today; we have a 7 hour bus journey to look forward to.
Yesterday we walked the 3 km to Te Puia, an area leased to the government by the Maori tribes and currently a place of intense geothermal activity. We saw a few geysers (see pic) and learned a fair bit about Maori tribe life. We witnessed a welcomnig ceremony and a few tribespeople performed some of their traditional songs and dances for us. It was lovely.
Then we caught a shuttle bus to the gondola, rode up and luged down (to luge is to sit on a kind of wheeled bobsled and ride down a concrete runway v. fast. FUN! I crashed 3 times on the easy route... :) ) We had two of these and then stopped for some chips at the cafe to warm up a bit. One portion of chips and one hot chocolate between 3 of us.
Rotorua is currently hosting the Mountain Biking Championships and although we didn't watch, we saw a couple of cyclist racing down the track and met a fair few camera men.
Then we pretty much came back to the hostel and played a ferocious game of Monopoly with a Scotsman and a German. I have since learned how to count up to 10 in German (ish). I *almost* won, so am fairly proud of myself. In the end it was me with the oranges and Fraser with all the other properties on the board, 2 sides of the board coated in hotels.
Physically I've caught a cold off of Jenny who caught it off of Emma at Soul Survivor a couple of weeks back but so far it's ok. This bit of our trip we had planned to go slightly easier anyway so it's all good. :)
Otherwise, missing you all as always. Keep me updated! And yes, water DOES go down the plug hole in the opposite direction.
Love,
Annabel
