Top tip: If you need cash, use the cash machines before the weekend, that way, if the machine eats your card the bank is open so you can get it back!
Planned to head off for Tuscany but needed cash, went into the local town to use the cash machine & it ate my card! we had had the sense it bring extra credit cards for emergencies and I managed to tranfer all the cash in my account into another account online but, as the nice policeman I spoke to told me,(having hailing him down as he passed by on his scooter), we have no alternative but to stay here until Monday morning when the bank opens to get my card back. There was a long que of Italians behind me at the cashpoint, all passionately jabbering in Italian and jesticulating.... they all seemed really concerned and one guy, bless him, even went off to try and find a friend of his who works in the bank, no joy though.
No problem, we found another lovely campsite in Deiva Marina, a coastal town with a nice beach and promenade with bars & restaurants. Got Wifi coverage by the van too so we can sit and catch up with the blog, skype etc.
21st June
After a huge storm in the night, it was cool enough to walk into town for beer & pasta for lunch. Ordered a Caffe Corretto afterwards. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, the strongest Espresso we've ever had with a local liqueur called Grappa. Talk about a caffeine hit, we were buzzing!! Hot again this afternoon. Went in a tacky souvenir shop and saw some really old postcards. Not sure if they were meant to be old ones or had never sold and were still on the stand after all these years. (There were pictures of the town before most of it was built, with deckchairs and 1970's cars)!! They had pictures of Linda Lusardi (remember her) super-imposed onto an Italian picturesque background. Bet her t*** don't look like that anymore either.
Happy Fathers day & summer Solstice xx
Drums dog blog.
They seem to think they are very clever...they have used the top off the kitchen antibacterial spay on an old litre spring water bottle & they keep spraying me with it to keep me cool....I don't like it one bit as it goes in my ears. Had my first taste of Italian somethingorother (Raviolli), very nice, but I prefer sausage though. Lets see what happens later!! Italian for dog is Cane! Italian for sausage is sausagio (I think, as everything seems to end in io)!
