Drove though Heidelburg, another old University town, stopped and had breakfast in the van with a great view of the 'schloss' ( one of Germany's finest examples of Gothic- Renaissance architecture, according to the lonely planet). We, and the people in the bus stop opposite watching us, were far more interested in the enormous German cakes we had bought in the bread shop, which we ate with great gusto until we felt sick.
Still no joy getting WiFi,have not been able to get internet access right through Germany, even tried McDonalds again, Drum is now very fond of fillet o' fish & fries.
Took the tourist route along the river Rhine (two blue stars on the map means worth a detour for the views) Vineyard covered mountains, quaint little towns & fairytale castles every couple of miles. Lost track of how many castles & got bored taking photos of them after the first dozen or so. Most of them look like they are still used, probably as hotels.
Our campsite is on Laacher See, another lake (we do seem to be drawn to water). This one is a lake in a volcanic crater, part of the Eifel volcanoes. The last eruption was thought to have been in 9,000BC so no worries on that score. Still plagued by the weather, it really gets to feel personal when it's been fine all morning, you plan a walk around the lake (4.6km) and pack a lunch and the heavens open when you've got less than half way around and you have to sit under an umbrella to eat your soggy cheese & tomato rolls being watched by the ducks who are loving every minute of it……… so back to the van to catch up on the blog & have an afternoon nap.

Had Fillet o fish, fries, then pissed in the Rhine. Got out the magic box by another lake and got soaked without going in the water. Then the b****es went out, so….I did the defiance trick to show them my displeasure…. and slept on their bed. They'dput things on it to stop me, but I managed to work around that.Unfortunately, they came back and saw me before I managed to get off it. They're too soft to tell me off, so I know I'll get away with it every time.I do it to Nanny and Grandad Rhodes when they come to visit coz they're soft too.
