29th/ 30th June 150km
Campsite is about 5km from centre of Salzburg. We arrived at 4pm and spent the afternoon planning our sightseeing for the next day. As the weather has been cooler, we are leaving Drum behind to guard the van.
Got our first real use of the bikes and cycled the 5km into Salzburg. The cycle path followed a stream & then the river, right into the centre of the old town.
Famous as Mozart's birthplace, the film location for 'Sound of Music' & full of an amazing mixture of architecture from medieval onwards, Salzburg goes on our list of places we would like to visit again. (Though preferably NOT on a pushbike or a hell of a lot fitter). Sarah got a flat tyre… (Top tip: If using a bike always have a bicycle pump with you & not left behind in the van)! She ended up walking back & I cycled to get back to Drum. As I arrived back the thunder storm that has been following us from Venice finally caught up with us again, so walked back to meet Sarah, who hates thunder storms & was getting very agitated & wet.
Leave Austria tomorrow for Germany but we will be back, it's beautiful…. Meeting Sarah's cousin Anita for lunch in Munchen tomorrow, apparently her Uncle & Aunt are over from the UK visiting too.

Glad they left me behind as I don't see the point in looking at a load of buildings when there are open fields & beaches to tear around on. Only way they could have persuaded me to go was if sausages were involved…..Slept peacefully until they got back then they dragged me out in the effin rain in the middle of a storm!!
