Today we started our journey home. Taking the back roads we went through a lot of forested areas and some farming areas, mostly potatoes and peanuts. Everywhere has signs selling hot boiled peanuts, sounds revolting!
One service station we stopped at to fill up had two cauldrons, the sort you usually see soup sold from but they were hot boiled peanuts, I was too squeamish to lift the lid to check them out lol
For a few days we've been seeing various first responders collecting in boots for the Tx victims of Harvey. Finally today we were at the lights at the right time so threw in all our change.
This really is the Bible Belt, there's churches everywhere. Many seemingly small communities have multiple churches often basically the same, Baptist but varying flavours of baptist mixed in with SDA's and others.
Although far fewer than this time last year there's still a few Trump signs about. Clearly some supporters are proud to stand by the idiot despite his far from presidential behaviour since taking office.
We passed through quite a bit of western Florida, a little bit of Georgia and on into Alabama before stopping in Troy Al for the night at a small cheap Wyndham.
It's labour day holiday so most restaurants were closed. We ended up at the local supermarket and scored ten pieces of southern chicken for a little over $5, not too healthy but dinner sorted all the same.
We've not been seeing any wildlife this trip, not even squirrels let alone anything bigger and can't decide if it's cos we've only been down south or if it's the heat. Many roads have had bear warning signs but zero sightings, not even deer. Very different to previous years......
