Berlin Day 3: by Sue
We took advantage of our 2 day passes for the City Circle Sightseeing Tours, hop on, hop off buses. Having taken the tours yesterday, we knew what we wanted to go back to today. First stop, The Holocaust Memorial. A sobering site. We also walked around the Brandenburg Gate, famous Berlin landmark, a 200 year old huge columned "Arch of Peace".
Next stop, a street with 30 antique stores. Rick enjoys antiquing more than I but I tagged along. Thankfully many of the stores weren't open yet. The next stop was my choice: the KaDeWe department store, claiming to be the biggest department store on the continent. The Rick Steve's book says it has a staff of 2,100 and a selection of 380,000 items. Rick and I were most interested in the 6th floor which was food and deli type items. A huge selection. No money was spent!
After riding the bus to one of the still visible walled sections, we walked through "our" neighbourhood , Prenzlauer Berg in East Berlin to find a restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner. We ended up on a patio at an Italian pizza place for a very good pizza and salad. More walking, another stop to enjoy the sunshine and local ambience on a patio near our hotel. We have an early morning to be at the airport for 7 am for our flight to Munich.
