It was an early start today, up at six for breakfast and to pack the car up. We got down to where the train leaves from a little after 7.30 and it left on time at 8am.
It was a pleasant train trip if slightly stressful for Pete who prefers to be in control.
We passed many small lakes most with some small fishing cottages at the edge. There was a good commentary now and then about the area we were passing and a bit of history of The Soo.
Many of the lakes looked like perfect moose habitat and there were some beaver buildings but no critters to be seen.
By the time we got into Agawa Canyon it was cold, windy and raining quite heavily. We went straight to a covered table and made our chicken wraps before heading off on a bit of a walk along the river. Some wild raspberries and blackberries made a perfect desert.
We went to one of the falls, Black Beaver which was ok but not spectacular. The only wild life we saw was a lone squirrel & some Canada Geese grazing on a lawn area as we went in and out of the park but there were some lovely wild flowers (weeds?) It was all a bit disappointing really, the brochures for the trip made it look like there was loads of wildlife.
The trip back, four hours but seemed much longer as we covered the same ground as going there. We think even in fine weather it wouldn't be worth the $90 each.
Back in the Soo and we eventually found our way around road works to the bridge to cross back into the U.S. We got the usual, where you been, where you going interrogation at customs, paid the $3.50 bridge use toll and we were back in the U.S. and instantly the speed limits were reasonable. The 90kph on Canada's highways was crazy slow.
We drove to St Ignace and checked into our hotel which we've booked for two nights. A quick shop, I cooked dinner and we settled in for the night.
