With exactly a month to go we've finally gotten around to locking in some dates & booking the airfares for this trip.
We didn't have enough frequent flyer points this year to fly totally free but what we had went a long way towards it so we were sort of hanging out til we got as many points as we could allocated.
We've decided this year to go via Sydney, a little more mucking about but from what we've heard from people who've flown on the airbus & a mate who's an airbus pilot, it'll be worth it in terms of comfort for the long haul flight.
So, the plan: We leave Brisbane on August 19th & fly to LA and collect our hire car. We have a couple of nights there to get ourselves a bit sorted out before heading east to Big Bear Lake for a couple of nights then north through Death Valley to Vegas. On from there to Denver for the MACNA conference via the Grand Canyon & Messa Verde.
After the conference we basically head north, Yellowstone Park, Banff and up into the Yukon before turning south and down to Vancouver via Whistler etc.
We've not yet booked it but plan on taking a cruise to Alaska out of Vancouver, spend some time in Vancouver & on Vancouver Island.
From there we essentially head south via Seattle, Lake Tahoe, San Fran, Monterey etc back to LA.
In LA we're hoping to do a few things like catch an ice hockey game & maybe a Lakers game before leaving LA on the 18th of Oct flying home to reality on Oct 19th.
