Cairns, Queensland
Hello all,
Sorry I have taken so long to write one of these but here it goes.
The trip started in Bangkok for 4 days which was absolutely amazing. It is a very cultural place with many beautiful temples and street stalls. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Bangkok apart from the last night that I decided to go and wander around a 'fleshpot'. This ended as myself being chased along the 2nd floor by about 4 ladyboys pinching my arse and squeezing my nipples. Thankfully the marathon training kicked in and I got away safely to continue my journey.
The day I met up with my group which you have seen in the photos. A great bunch of people. We headed on an overnight train down to Krabi. This place was incredible with a rich light blue sea and many deserted islands to venture to. We spend 3 days in Krabi doing various activities e.g. kayaking and getting pissed. AWESOME.
From there we departed and headed into Malaysia for the week. The 1st town I did not see as I was stuck in the room due to a dodgy bout of Satay Chicken :( However, the rest of Malaysia was nothing to write home about to be honest. We just visited the major citys and its all the same, all they have is massive western shopping centres....BORING. The only rest point was in Cameron Highlands, which is 1500m above sea level in Malaysia. Here we went for a rather interesting ride in a Land Rover where we all thought we were going to die and then we went walk abouts through a rainforest. SWEET.
We then hit Singapore, which grew on me. Although it is like the other 'Western' Malaysian cities at least it has a few nice touches such as the botanic gardens and the night skyline. However, I was only there 2 days and I think anymore probably would have killed me anyway.
I then hit Bali. That place is absolutely not worth the trip. Its like going to Bennidorm. You are constantly being pestered and the infrastructure is next to none. Nevermind, a few days I did get to see the real Bali and it is a beautiful place, it just takes a very long time to get anywhere.
Now, I am in Cairns, 3000km north of Sydney. It is my last day here before I head down to Mission Beach. Now here is quality. I have so far done a rainforest tour, crocodile river cruise, a skyrail ride up to the highlands and of course a great barrier reef trip. Although it is very expensive, you just take the plunge and I have not regretted any of the experiences I have had so far.
Well that is a brief synopsis of what has happened so far. I could harp on but I will leave that for when I get back. I hope everyone is well and I will try to get back to individuals asap. Probably best to leave messages on fb as i check that more often.
Much Love,
Strickers x
