So then, another month gone by so I guess time for another blog entry. I'm still staying in the Old Firestation in Fremantle. It's quite scary how quickly time has passed by really. I've been in Australia two and a half months now and it doesn't seem like that at all! This stage of my trip was always going to be about working and trying to save some money, which I have been managing to do even though my active social life at weekends is eating into the funds. But hey, I'm here to have a good time and travelling over to Australia was never going to make me a tea-totaller was it?!
So, at the time of my last blog I had been working in my new job in Perth CBD for a couple of days. Well, I'm still working there and have stuck it out. It's been pretty good. The company itself is very high-tech with all mod cons. Not like what I'm used to back in the UK. I'm working in one of the skyscrapers and some of the views are fantastic. I'm hoping to take a few snaps on my last day from the top floor as I can imagine some of the views are breathtaking from up there. The job itself is busy. Very busy. So I am definitely earning my money. The people are very friendly there as well so things are good and I only have 9 days of work left before the assignment ends (yes, I am counting it down but only because I'm excited about the next phase of my travels!).
So, I am now starting to plan the next part of my journey. I have really enjoyed Fremantle but it's definitely time to move on. Almost three months in one place is long enough when you are on a one year visa. In a couple of weeks I will be travelling up north and I guess this is when the real travelling starts. It appears that I'll be doing an easy rider tour. Basically it is a coach which is a hop-on hop-off service. It goes from Perth to Darwin and contains 12 journey legs including Exmouth, Monkey Mia, Coral Bay, Broome & Darwin. The plan is to give myself about a month to do the 12 legs, get up to Darwin and then travel down through Alice Springs, see Uluru Rock and then catch the Ghan train down to Adelaide. So this is really where the travelling and proper sightseeing starts!
I have thought about the Camper Van option, but the trouble is finding people to do this and having no driving licence doesn't help. I have posted an advert but nothing has come up yet. The other option was the greyhound coach, which is cheaper, but I wouldn't be likely to meet many people on the greyhound. Easy rider is more geared to younger travellers so hopefully I'll have a great time and meet lots of people on the way.
I managed to get over to see Perth Glory Vs Queensland Roar football match yesterday. It's was well worth going but must admit the standard was pretty poor. Perth Glory were shocking, so much so they would make Woking's defence look good. Tommy Hutch would have walked into their back four. Queensland Roar had a few big names playing for them, namely Danny Tiatto, Craig Moore & Charlie Miller. The fact that Charlie Miller, an overweight guy that ran the show from midfield in the first half, was probably the best player on the park shows the standard of the A-league really. There are a few quality players about, but lots of mediocre ones as well that I'm sure wouldn't cut it in the Conference. It was worth going though, if only to watch the second half entertainment which came in the form of a fight between a security guard and a fan who had stolen his bandana. Welcome relief from the awful football on display!
Perth is a great city and one I would recommend people visit. As someone said to me the other day. There's not a great deal to see over here but it's a great place to live. I'd agree with that. I have been here in the winter but I can imagine that in the summer it will be stunning over here. Unfortunately I won't be seeing Perth in the summer. At least until I get my second year visa anyway (ha ha this is now becoming a possibility!). We shall see......
So that's it for now. Pretty short and sweet this time. Not a lot of sight seeing has been done. Just working hard and playing hard! I think my blogs may be a little bit more regular over the next month or so as I start to go and see lots of different places up towards Darwin. As long as I can get internet access that is. I'm hoping to see Rottnest Island before I leave so fingers crossed for the weather at the weekend. I'm sure I will be hankering for a cold day though in a few weeks. Apparently Darwin is 40 degrees celcius every day at the moment. It's going to be a shock!
