Hello everyone!
Last time we blogged we were in KL, we decided to go to the Petronas Towers the following day but they only have 1,500 tickets a day & it's first come, first serve. This meant we had to get up at 6am to make it to the towers & get in line for when the office opened at 8:30am. Sam was not pleased that I dragged him out of bed for this, especially when lots of people in front of us had obviously let there partners sleep in & gone ahead to queue for them both, we realised this as the number of people in front of us doubled!
We got our tickets & went on the 9am tour. It's really cool to see from that high, we went up to the 82nd floor & I couldn't help think how nice a bar it would make!
It was pretty cold up that high but worth getting up so early for it!
We had gone the night before to get some night pics & to find the 'sky bar' in the traders hotel which gives you great views of the towers at night all lit up but we were told drinks were expensive & not just anybody could go in so we didn't look that hard for it.
We went to a few shopping centres & got lost as they are huge! One had a roller coaster inside but it was like $20 to have a go so I refrained..Reluctantly.
In the hostel we were staying in was an old Malay guy called Tony. He'd slipped over in china town & broken his tibia so he was just staying in the hostel whilst it healed. He'd move from place to place in the hostel chatting to people & got the nickname 'Tony google' as he knew everything!!
He told us that Malaysia put a 300% (may have exaggerated) tax on alcohol which is why its so expensive but there's a loophole... Chinese medicine shops don't have to pay the tax as alcohol is considered medicinal so it's cheaper by 1/2 the price! He also gave us a map & directions to the nearest Chinese medicine shop that his friend owns so we got some cheap beers in :) I also got two 250ml bottles of wine & a wine glass for £4 so I was happy!!
Tony google also told us that on Chinese new year he drinks 300 cans of beer & rebuilds the great wall of china so I'm not 100% he can be trusted! He also had a very loud, infectious laugh which made him seem unhinged!
We were debating whether or not to go to Langkawi as the weather report said it was stormy but Tony said the BBC has been wrong all week about the weather & that it wasn't going to rain or storm in Langkawi......once again Tony google was right!!
So were in Langkawi at the moment & loving it! We flew from KL for I think about £20 each and are staying opposite the beach in Pantai Chenang.
The beach is beautiful. It's White sand & I about 2k long.
There's lots of watersports going on, jet skis, paragliding, banana boating etc but we've not really done much but lie on the beach!
It's 32 degrees so its unbelievably hot & just we're just dripping with sweat! Mmmm :)
We found a restaurant called Tomato which is the cheapest we've found and the food is great! It's a mix of Malay, Indian & Chinese. We had a curry the other day (butter chicken) with a naan & popadoms each for £2.20!! Loving the food here & getting pretty excited about doing a cooking course in India!
Off to Penang tonight for a few days then back to KL to see Tony google ;) then Singapore for 2 days to catch our flight to Bali on the 27th Jan.
Lots of love
Vickey & Sam
