Today's - Good to know:
One of the mild annoyances you're likely to face on the road of you venture outside the cosmopolitan centres is the incessant exclamation (). Or alternatively `Hello () hello!´. The first character means 'old' and is a mark of respect in Chinese. The second character literally means 'outside'.
Used in this context, however, the expression is not exactly polite but nor is it cause for offence either. You could think of it as akin to 'Hey Ole Whitey!' or something of that nature. It's certainly a lot better than outmoded forms of address such as 'Foreign Devil' or 'American Spy'. If you answer by saying hello be prepared for your audience to break into hysterical laughter.
Todays tip:
Remember to put on sun blocker even if it's a cloudy day, you can still get sunburned.
Dish of today:
Chicken Burger at KFC. Just what I needed.
Today's Historical fact:
1987: The Last Emperor, filmed in the Forbidden City, collects an Oscar for Best Picture, and marks a new openness in China towards the outside world.
My day:
I sat my alarm to 8am, had an idea to get up early to explore the city and beaches. But I slept a bit longer. I started to take a shower, no hot water, so it was a really delightful shower, not gonna do that again. Hehe. Luckily Wang Qi showed me later in the day how to turn on the heater for the water.
I took a cap into ZhongShan Guang Chang (Square) in middle of Dalian, my goal was to find a place to rent a bike, but I didn't succeed. Downtown Dalian is a typical big city with a lot of skyscrapers, found a little alley to eat breakfast. It was some kind of pancake with ham inside. The taste was more than fine, because I was really hungry. Dalian city wasn't so interesting, so took a cap home, with a little quick stop at KFC to eat a burger.
Afterwards I took a cap to Fujiazhuang Beach. Bought a towel and a mat intended for beach use. The beach was not what I expected. The Chinese tourists ruined the whole joy of being on a beach, there where all over the place, and there were also tents everywhere, and it was so noisy. I lucky found a more quiet spot on a plane, a bit further from the shore. Here I enjoyed the warmth from the sun, even though it was a bit cloudy. I quickly fell asleep and slept for a couple of hours. Was really pleasant.
Then I took a cap home, watched some Big Bang Theory before Wang Qi would pick me up for dinner.
It was her son, she and I for dinner. Very delicious. Her son got his grates today. And he is the third best in his class of 52 people. Clever boy. He also study hard it seems. He will have holiday on Friday, and promised his Mom to hang out with him. Think its gonna be fun. He is a bit shy with his English, but he just have to get started, then its more than fine.
After dinner Wang Qi and I went to a big supermarket, where I could buy tomorrow mornings breakfast, which means, Eggs, toast, jam, and honey. I also bought some washing powder, a fork, spoon and some chopsticks. On the way she asked me how much the normal salary in Denmark is, and I said around 20000-25000 Yuan per month: She then told me that the average salary in Dalian was around 3000-5000 Yuan. She also thinks that the Inflation in China is to high, and everything is getting quite expensive. Food is not so cheap in China, as you would think it would be, but you can still get a cheap meal for about 30 Yuan.
Big Bang Theory and then time for bed.
Goodnight!
Ps: I miss you Vince!
