Hey everyone!
So sorry for our lack of updates, who would have thought it would be so hard to get free internet places!!
So we took the lovely Greyhound bus at the end of our last blog from Vegas to LA, and after an epic bus route with some very questionable crazies we eventually arrived in a 'safer' part of town at Duo Housing. This was based in the Korea Town part of LA and certainly felt a bit more homely. The people running the hostel were all quite young and cool, very helpful and friendly.... so friendly infact that we scored some free NBA tickets at the Staples centre from one of the owners! Sweeet!
Our first full day we headed up to Hollywood where we embarked on a star tour, taking in views of the rich and famous' houses and some film spots and popular venues in LA. The Hollywood sign was being repainted so the D was a little dull, but still quite cool to see and lovely to know it is still there courtesy of Hugh Heffner who prevented it from being torn down by buying it, what a legend!?
We took a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard and checked out the Chinese theatre with the hand prints. Steve's hand was half the size of Arnie's! We checked out a cool sweetshop where I bought a Wonka bar like in the film (the bar is half eaten at the moment and has gone through several security airport checks which I'm well chuffed with!!)
That night we checked out the NBA game which was a home match for the LA Clippers against the New Orleans Hornets. It was quite thrilling and close to the wire but sadly our boys lost :-(
The next day we went to Universal Studios. It's a damn sight smaller than Florida for those that have been, but still a good day out. Dan conquered his fear of rollercoasters and took on the Mummy at 45mph. Well done Dan! We loved it so much we did that ride twice! We had our picture taken with the Transformers and I had a lovely conversation with Donkey from Shrek who called me 'Princess Laura from England' Check out the video and pics.
The final full day was spent at Santa Monica Beach but sadly the weather was not in our favour and it was a little drizzly. We cheered ourselves up though with a bucket of shrimp at Bubba Gumps. It was THAT good we went back there for dinner!
We strolled down to Venice Beach but this was a bit shadey so didn't stay there long, there were constant wafts of Cannabis... certainly fragrant!
We finished off with happy hour drinks and more shrimp! Good times :-)
On our final day we said goodbye to Dan and headed off to the Science Centre where the space shuttle Endeavour is now situated. It was quite awe-inspiring. Then Steve and I headed to the airport for our trip to Fiji... check this out in our next blog!!
