Bangkok continued. After finishing our last blogs Lisa and I met some of the other people staying in the hostel. I had a couple of beers and Lisa had a couple of teas. The guys in the hostel were lovely; we met Ashley from Edinburgh who has a friend in common with me on facebook and her room mate Naomi from Japan who offered to take us out the next day and we also met countless other new friends as well. The hostel had such a good atmosphere that we didn't feel the need to venture out and we stayed up till about 1 chatting. When we went to bed we both slept extremely well although with the air conditioner on in the bedroom it was rather cold. The next morning we woke rather early and started getting ready to go sightseeing. After having breakfast at the hostel we waited on ashley and naomi and when they arrived we ventured along Silom road and purchased fruit from the street vendors. We sampled jack fruit and fresh mango, which was absolutely delicious . Silom road is quite a busy road with vendors along the pavement and shops and hotels all the way along therefore it is quite hard to manoeuvre through them without people trying to get you into their tuk tuk or sell you something at "a very good price", they even follow you to the road to help you across into their own shop or to sell you a boat ride. I enjoy passing through cities and observing people but everyone looks at you and talks to you here, trying to get money. It takes some getting used to. We looked around fora while to get a boat but we ended up at a pier that only did private hire which was too expensive for what it was so we gave it a miss. Feeling tired hungry and dehydrated Lisa and I decided to head back towards the hostel whilst the others continued on. We walked back to the hostel insisting that we could manage to cross roads by ourselves. We soon found ourselves outside Starbucks again and gave into that familiar temptation. We sat watching the world go by: enjoying the view but not being an active part of it. We returned to the hostel, did some laundry, watched half of Burke and hare on the cinema sized tv and chilled for a while. Once some others arrived back at the hostel we decided to be brave and along with our new friend Danny we decided to venture out for dinner. Part 3 to follow soon.
