Nakhon SawanOk first day here, I am very knackered, slept alot, after two plane rides of approx 6.5 hours each and a stopover of 4 hours in UAE. I arrived here at 11.34pm.After a shower I got into a taxi for town, still on Uk time, went looking for something to eat.Found food, ate and went back and slept for the next day.Day 3Woke up around 2.30am, too much sleep.Around 10am went back into town for a look around, what can I say, this place is completely off the hook. There are several things Nakhon Sawan has plenty of, motorbikes, taxis, dogs by the thousands and every mother and father trying to sell you their daughter, yes I said sell. Here is the scoop, in Thailand if you want to get engaged to a Thai you have to pay the parents for the pleasure, this is no joke, time honoured tradition. They call it the Dowry; you pay the parents for the upbringing of their daughter depending on your wealth, her looks, how poor the family is. Quite scary really, selling your own daughter for money? Begs the question, should we in the UK adopt the same tradition?Well if you're interested I found out how much a really good looking Thai women will cost you, 50,000 - 500,000 bht, this is from £800 to £10,000.It doesn't stop there, this is just to get engaged, they thing that all farang( any white skin ) are very wealthy people, well I suppose to them we are when you consider the average wage here in Nakhon Sawan is around 20,000 a month, around £300 and we can earn that in a week, so I guess one has to make your own mind up on this one.So back to purchasing your Thai lady, you will be expected to buy a ring, now in England we can purchase an engagement ring from around £100 - whatever, here the Thai girls because of our supposed wealth expect you to pay no less that 100,000 bht, around £1500. So as you can see before you even get a kiss, cuddle or first, second base with a Thai girl you must first pay out around £11,500.Now that has to be some girl hay, and from what I have seen so far, some are very good looking, my friends wife, where I am getting all this info from is very nice, she cost him £9,500 to get engaged to.Some Thai girls also do not shave legs, under arms etc, in this heat, cus its f.....cking hot, has to make some of the girls sweat like hell, and you can make your own conclusions from this.So once you have got the ring, paid her parents, you then come to the marriage, as a farang you are expected to give the traditional wedding, as I see this it means as all Thai's do it, don't be fooled, remember you are wealthy, so you are expect to give a traditional Thai wedding but 1000 times better than any normal Thai national. The wedding will cost you anywhere from 250,000bht to 1.5mil bht. So before you get a kiss, cuddle or any kind of loving you have to shell out around £20,000 to £30,000 what can I say, one year's pay to find out she is crap in bed, can't cook and you are expect to buy a house, which you cannot have in your name and if you split they keep, you get nothing, but it gets worse, you also have to move in the parents and other close family members up to three only though, oh there is something you can have, one member only of your own family.Well isn't that peachy, so not only have you paid the parents for your new bride you are also expected to look after their family as well for the rest of their lives or until you decide you have had enough.Whilst I am sat here writing this a wedding party has arrived, a Thai only wedding party, I have watched chris's wedding DVD, the difference is out of this world. So there you have some cultural stuff which I find mind blowing, there has to be a cheaper way to find out if your future bride is worth paying for, in the UK we have some problems, but this is totally crazy stuff, however there are still those from around the world that will continue to come here looking for love, think they have found it, only to find in 5 months it was where they came from in the first place, without the expense.I love the food, it is not dislike what you can get from any good Thai take out, spicy and loads of it, not to costly either, for four people to eat out here in most restaurants you can expect to pay around 900bht, around £15.00 including drinks, not bad for a night out hey. The service is second to none, if you're looking for the cleanest place on earth to eat, keep out of the traditional Thai eating houses, they are not the cleanest but by far the best food and the cheapest.Had my first beer today, gave me instant hangover, have a beer in the evening, its cooler and doesn't affect your head as much, cheap though, not like in my local, here a beer will cost you less than £1.00, if only I could drink more, I could get totalled for around 20bht, exchange rate, £1 = 65.23bht. work that out!!!!Day 4Was going to stay in today, then this nice Thai family turned up and asked if I would like to go sightseeing, the mother can speak quite good English, I said I would love to. Glad I did take a look at where they took me,To feed the fish, this is a feeding frenzy like nothing I ever seen, these fish are food mad,see Thailand picture albums, they actually live near the temple of glass and gold, picture in a mo, the monks provide you with bags of food, at a price but only a few pence. You then feed away, this was good fun and a great way to pass the time away whilst we waited for the temple to open.Sorry battery ran out. No more pictures of this one, but a great place to visit. So after a wonderful day I asked the family if I could take them out for dinner, they suggested going for dinner on the river back in Nakhon Sawan, I said this sounds great, floating restaurant, this is for me.We arrived around 7.30, order food and off we went down the river, whilst eating, I asked if there is any wild life on the river, I was told fish and crocs. Me been me, once eaten decided to look over the side and see if I could see anything, I got see more than I bargained for, boat hit a wave and over I went, straight in the drink, lost my phone, so please don't send messages, the fish and croc's will only answer, still only got very wet.Day 5 Didn't do much, found somewhere to get washing done, went and bought a new phone, no numbers for people though, at the bottom of one of the four rivers here in Nakhon Sawan. They call it the gateway to the north, it is the place where the four great rivers meet. Here are a couple of pictures of the town from the temple on the hill, see Thailand AlbumThe two girls in the picture by the way are with a big mixed farang family I met at the temple, they are part of the wedding party for tomorrows wedding. I think they get in the way of a wonderful picture. Anyway thank god their parents weren't there, I would have been asked to purchase one or maybe both???Picture Thailand 5, sun rise from my cabin Saturday morning.Day 6Didn't get to much, stayed mainly in cabin, great room service here, you ring, they bring a menu you can't read( in Thai ) you order something, who knows what, food arrives and you look at it and make sure it's dead, then you try it, that is lunch.A little walk down the road is a Thai restaurant I tried last night, met up with more English folk, here there aren't too many farang and that is why we stand out when we go out. It's like the fish feeding frenzy, all looking for your attention, what a world.Day 7Going into town tonight, there is a nice park, central park in Nakhon Sawan so I am going to check it out.By the way, I think I have pulled, I was in need of the bathroom last night and found this, see Thailand 4 picture, I didn't know if I should take a picture, sorry a bit blurred but was 2.30am or capture it and sell it, and they eat these little things here?Although this is a really nice part of Thailand thinking of going down to Bangkok tomorrow, maybe Phuket. It's around 11.30am here, sat on front pouch of cabin, this Thai wedding is in full swing, think I will go and see if I can gate crash, get an insider's view.
