Another early start - bus to Singapore - through more borders - but no hassle at all, Carol was pleased. Usually one person from the group gets searched etc. 3 hours traveling and we were in Singapore our last and final destination as Team Intrepid - as the girls called us! Our hotel - Royal Peacock in China Town, was very nice - will be photos of it soon.
A majority vote was made to eat McDonalds/Burger King for lunch! None of us enjoyed it, and were woken up to the expense that is Singapore, especially after spending 12days in Thailand and Malaysia. After lunch we headed to the river, had a river boat ride, did lots of walking, and experienced the close proximity of being almost on the equator (Hot!!) - a first for me!
On Friday evening we had 1 celebration and one sad occasion. We had a lovely Chinese meal for Laura's fake BD that was in a couple of days! And it was also our final supper together!! Amy had a few tears, she claimed it was because she had eaten a chili pepper!!?? Amy was the one who laughed at me when I said we would be sad at the end of the trip!!!
We all headed down to the main bar stretch by the river, and had a few drinks there. We tried getting into a few clubs, but because 2 of the girls and 2 of the guys are only 18 we couldn't get into some of the clubs. We tried 4, and then Laura (BD girl), Carol, James felt ill and went back with, Cat, Helen, Robert and Will. Amy, Kyle, Kjell and me stayed out and headed over to the Asia bar, near raffles, but Kjell couldn't get in! We called it a night and tried Starbucks - we were even rejected from there too (it was closing). We got back to the hotel and the girls were supposed to be having a pj party - but it never materialized. - So that was our kind of eventful - but not happening final evening with us all together.
Saturday. Today was departure day, James my room mate for two weeks was going to stay with his sister in Singapore, Carol our leader started a new trip on Sat afternoon going back up to Bangkok and Robert headed back to the UK. This left Amy, Helen, Laura, Cat, Will, Kyle, Kjell and Me for the next 24 hours! Amy, Helen and me stayed in the hotel another night. While the other guys found rooms in hostels elsewhere.
So on Sat we went to Santosa Island http://www.sentosa.com.sg have a look at this website, it will give you a feel of what it was like - and it saves me having to talk about one less thing. We did; Dolphins, Aquarium, Luge, Ski lifts and bit of the beach or and Deli France!
On the evening/L8 afternoon we went to raffles and had our Singapore slings - v nice! Hotel okay, not amazing - it's all about the name!! Then we headed off to the Night Safari at Singapore Zoo! These were some of the last hours we would be spending together! N.Safari was good - we saw many things - including ants in Cats shoes - lots of them! Helen isn't very good with insects, birds and even butterflies (she didn't come in the butterfly house in C. Highlands). So every time there was a weird noise she would jump and grab someone's hand - that turned out to be me a lot of the time! The funniest noise was when a baby let out this really weird high pitch cry (even I wondered what it was), but Helen flipped - it was so funny we all nearly wet ourselves as Helen almost ran out of the whole N. Safari. Yeah it was a v. good last night!
We all got taxi's home, me, Amy and Helen shared a taxi back to hotel. We were going to say a final goodbye to Carol, but it was too late, and she was leaving at 7.30am next morning!
I was up early (Sun Morning) and had to do loads of washing and packing. I met Amy and Helen for brekkie at 9.30. We then met Kyle, Kjell, Will, Laura and Amy for lunch by the river, these were the last few hours of team intrepid!! We then went to Orchard Road for some shopping, by the time we got there Kyle had to leave to get his luggage and get to the a/p on time. Then just under an hour later it was my turn to go!! Some tears all around, mainly from Amy - I said "and you laughed at me, when I said we would be sad at the start of the trip!". Without making it worse than it already was I kept the goodbyes brief. For Amy and Helen they will see me again in Sydney as they arrive there a few days after me!!!
So for me this was officially the end of my Intrepid experience, and what an amazing, exciting, emotional and fulfilling trip it had been! I loved every minute of it - even now - things like getting absolutely soaked in K.L. seem so funny now, and are just part of the experience. I loved it, and the people were wicked!!!! We are all going to defo stay in touch!!! Cheers guys, for a great trip! You're all fab! (",)
So I was back to the traveling alone skill for a while! Got my bags from hotel, train to airport etc. etc. Then I see Will, Kjell, Laura and Cat checking into the flights to Cairns and Melbourne! I had been keeping a watch out, 'cos they were leaving for the airport an hour after me! So ironically we hung out for a bit, until I had to say goodbye again and head for my flight! (I was with guys on the free email at the airport when I sent the last brief msg).
Flight was 2 hrs 10mins and very empty!!! - Was weird!!! - Rubbish in-flight entertainment - nice food though (Ozzie Airlines)! Wasn't long before we touched down in Denpasar - Bali on Sunday evening! The next chapter of my travel's had begun!
