Friday morning: A nice lady at West Ryde Avis kitted me out with a bright red Toyota to head off into the bush. Or at least to drive the Western Highway (also known as the explorers or pioneer's route). this is when you start to realise landscapes happen here on a considerably larger scale than in warwickshire. On the plus side everyone drives at a very conservative low speed, and the roads are not very busy.
The Blue Mountains came up pretty early, with stops at Wentworth falls and Katoomba. An exceptionally large percentage of the residents of Shanghai had decided to visit the 3 Sisters at Katoomba at the same time as me which made for quite a crush. Also the feeling that I was the only person in a packed cable car across the gorge who understood a single word the plucky tour guide was saying over the PA. The little town of Leura nearby was lovely (try the Red Door cafe if passing).
Then on down to the plains that roll out west towards Bathurst and Orange NSW (overnight destination). The day finished with a doorstep sized steak at Kelly's Rugby Hotel, named for the game not my hometown.
Next day - onward to Dubbo, where this posting was possible. Orange hasn't discovered free wifi in pubs yet.
