After St. Louis we headed to Springfield, Missouri smack bang in the bible belt, we stayed at the best western rail haven which has been there since route 66 first started and had a good nights sleep, we heard some English voices at breakfast which was nice :-) but no time to waste! Straight back on the road to Oklahoma City via broken arrow where we stopped for lunch at a Mexican supermarket, I'd never have put cactus in the vegetable section but hey!
We sunbathed on the back of the pick up and had a little picnic where we met a guy called chad who had never met anyone from England before!
Oklahoma city was a cute little city with a real wild west feel to it :-) we headed straight for the stockyards where all the cowboys are we'd unfortunately missed the cattle sale but we met some nice people and had a look around the shops, gollllly do they have a lot of boots! Pink ones turquoise ones spiderman ones, you name it and they had it, for 600 bucks...
We booked into a hotel and got settled in then went for dinner at Shorty Smalls, shorty fats more like, phew we barely ate half before we were both puffing out our cheeks in defeat!
The next day we spent by the pool and exploring, we headed for Moore, OK that we'd heard still had bad tornado damage from May and wow did it just, it was completely flat for miles with the odd bathroom still sat there without a house, there was building work going on though and people were still clearing up debris.
From Moore we drove to Amarillo, TX where we stayed in the Big Texan, a huge themed motel and horse hotel home to the 72oz steak, we had dinner here surrounded by the giant skull of a Texas longhorn and numerous other deer heads, we watched 2 guys fail to finish the 72oz steak, our waiter called them failing 'that guys too fat his metabolism will be too slow and he'll be a chewer' the art apparently is to not chew and just swallow.
We had some drinks at a trucker bar afterwards which was interesting, not a full set of teeth between them!
We headed back to Big Tex and caught some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's :-)
The following morning we got up and headed to Roswell, NM, almost running out of petrol on the way, sweaty top lips had by all! We eventually made it and what a let down! It was like the land that time forgot, creepy empty run down town with only an alien museum to show for the years of believing UFOs had been there, annoying!
Anyhooo we drove to the white sands memorial which was beautiful :-) not worth the 7 hour drive but lovely all the same :-)
Again I leave you here and hope my blog finds you well, more up to date updates soon I promise :-)
Lots of love x
