Howdy y'all :-)
I'm writing from Flagstaff, AZ just south of the Grand Canyon, it's taken us 5 pretty arduous days to get here, from St. Louis through Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona not to mention a lightning storm an illegal immigrant inspection point and a close call with no petrol on a long stretch of highway in Roswell, that was a tense sweaty 20 minutes to the petrol station!
I started in sunny Chicago where all the beautiful people live it seems! If they weren't running or cycling they were swimming or playing volleyball! Chicago was beautiful, lake Michigan was beautiful with the added backdrop of downtown Chicago :-)
We went up the John Hancock building and saw the city in all its glory as the sunset :-)
Chicago had great food, big tasty salads and nice cocktails, I also had my first spinach and artichoke delicacy, wow, simon if you're reading can you learn how to make that please! :-)
I was sad to leave Chicago but onwards and upwards! We got the Amtrak to St. Louis where we stayed in Soulard, a cool French style suburb who claim to have the second best Mardi Gras in the US, and have some really nice bars.
We went out on our first night with some of the people from our hostel and wound up going to a pool party, well party is a bit strong, pool gathering well there was a pool... We didn't get in until 6 so the following day was a write off apart from trying deep fried ravioli, a St. Louis thing, super tasty!
It was on this day however that shevvy and I looked up at the big world map in the common area and decided to drive to the Grand Canyon
"it can't be that far right?"
Oh hoho yes it can, but nevertheless we walked 40 minutes in the roasting heat to pick up our Dodge Ram! So armed with a map, a crate of water and our Dodge 'if you can't dodge 'em ram 'em' ram we set off with St. Louis in our rear view mirror.
And that's were I shall leave this blog entry :-) I hope it finds you well and I'll update again in a few days :-)
