Ok ready for an epic blog_ Here we go!
So we went to Lake Quilatoa, it was incredable, it´s set in a massive crater in the middle of nowhere, we had to get a bus and thenb a random pick up trcuk toi take us there. Unfortunatley since we ere above clooud level the altitude sickness hit again... this time in the form of back and joint pain like I´ve never had before. it was literally crippling. We walked down to the base of the lake and then we got horses to take us back up which was nice as we got to appriciate the views more. I slept oon a restuarant floor untill we were able to get back to our hostel. We decided it would be best to get toi lower ground as me and paul were only feeling worse and worse, so we started heading to the ecuador peru boarder.. we had quite a few poblems with buses but the next day after a rather restless night on a bus we arrived at Mancora on the coast of peru - it was definatley different doing a boarder rossing by bus, no security checks or anything really.
Mancora was very nice, it was a holiday in peru so there were loads of peple who had come down for theweekend, it was brilliantly sunny and swe septn the day at the beach. We headed to Lima tat evening, Paul went in a sperate bus as he was still feeling a bit funny from the altitude before and he wanted a bed. Me sally and kat ended up having more bus problems and had to change on our way to Lima but we got there eventually. It was crazy scenery on the way there though, massive sand dunes everywhere!
We didn´t have much spare time in Lima before we had to get our flight to iquits where we were doing our amazon tour from. We had enougtime to see a couple of the main squares and get some long sleeved tops so we wouldn´t get eatten alive in the amazon - this made very little difference for me in the end anyways...
---------- The AMazon---
Well I don´t even know wherre to begin, seeing the amazon rainforest was one of the best experiences of thisa trip so far! We did everything, we wernt for walks through the forest and learnedt all about the different plants that can be used for medical purposes, and saw all kinds of spiders and ants and other creepy crawlies. Taht afternoon we went to an open zoo kinda place, and they had everythign! Macaws, Toucans, loads of different monkeys cappuchin, spider and a sloth!! That was amazing, we got to hold them all and theyu all clambered all over us, the monkeys tried to steal my earrings literally ripping themn out of my ears as soon as they saw me! They had tortoises and an amazing prehistoric looking tortoise with a spikey shell. We got to hold a ring boa - massive like a boa constrictor.. that was pretty scary...and we tried sdme weird ungle shots that are god for you in some way apprently!! We went for a night walk that night with our flashlights and got to see loads of iant frogs and more weird and crazy looking bugs. We got to see the stars in the southern hemisphere as well which was awesome!
The next day we went to go meet a trib eo f people who live in the amazon, and we got to see all their traditinal clothes and blowguns and they did a dance with us. We got to go swimming in the amazon river tlater, which was amazing! Not really that cold but really really dirty!! and really deep! We went to another local village where they had schools and we gpot to learn about there way of life.
The next day we went early morning bird watching and saw some prehistoric looking orange birds, and loads of flycatchers and many other birds and giant lillypads and loads of amazing trees. We went pirranah fishing after that,m i didn´t manage to catasch anything but sally got 2 sardines and pual managed to catch a couple of piranahs. We arrived back in Lima and went to Miraflores a different part of the city which I much prefered to where we stayed befoe, we stayed in a really nice hostel and has a proper night out, but in the clubs everyone danced salsa to say the least i struggled....
The next day we went paragliding off a cliff by the coast and again looked around the main swquares and has a nice dinner by the sea, followued abvy e trip to to the Lima fountains, which was a massive display of different waterfountains all lit up at night and set to music, it was lovely!
We´ve now arrived in Cusco and have spent a few days here acclimatisinglooking round the markets and the city in general. today we went up to Christo Blanco, a giant Jesus staue overlooking the ci9ty and we went for a horse ride to look at some inca runins of the moon temple. We´ver been tpo some other inca ruins that have since been converted into a catholic church so that was interesting to see.
Tomorrow white river water rafting, and the day after inca trail!! I´ll write mmy next blog if I survive!! Addios xx
