Where do I begin! So much has happened over the last week or so. My tour started with just 3 girls, myself, another English girl and a kiwi! The icebreaker was the thunder jetboat ride which was pretty cool - really got thrown about! We ventured out into the Blue Mountains which was the most incredibly vast expanse of trees. We went on the world's steepest railway and saw the 3 sisters rock formation as well as climbing (down) 950 steps - what a leg burner. Wentworth falls was beautiful and the aboriginal stories that accompany all of the sites there were fascinating. The following day we went on a dolphin cruise and had at least 3-5 of them swimming by the boat for a solid 10 minutes. Dodgey Dave, our tour guide, gives us all the best tips so we stood in the prime position on deck! I had the coldest night of my life in a caravan in Port Macurie, I thought I'd frozen alive. Next morning was a trip out to the local koala hospital, I've never seen such cute animals! They were being syringe fed warm milk - adorable! From there we went to surf camp where we trekked along a chilly beach. Didn't have a surfing lesson but I wanted to. We met a few guys there also from England who were showing off their go-pro video skills. Admittedly they were quite good! A 2 metre (or there abouts) snake crawled out from the cabin next to us. It was creepy! Byron bay lighthouse was our next stop for sightseeing - at the most easterly point in oz and one of the brightest lights apparently. Whales were also splashing about in the waters for us! Dave drove us to surfer's paradise and we failed a night out in an Irish bar called Waxy's. Alcohol is super expensive here and all of the fit Australians must be in hiding. 5 people joined our tour, 2 pairs of mums and daughters and one German guy - great. In Rainbow Beach we made boomerangs and saw the sunset on a sandblow. I narrowly avoided eating kangaroo. I've spent the last 2 days on Fraser Island seeing the most incredible lakes and a place called Champagne Pools, where the tour guide basically forced me into the water... Saying that, it was a pretty incredible looking place, giant rockpools where the sea water bubbles as it flows into them. Saw a giant rusting shipwreck and fell in love with a English speaking German with an American twang that already has a girlfriend, but other than that being utterly perfect. Too bad Rachael got there first! There were loads of dingoes just hanging around. I managed to get a little burnt as it reached 25 degrees! Back in Rainbow Beach tonight for a 7am start of feeding dolphins followed by a long drive to a cattle station without signal or WiFi :( so far I'm loving it!
