We made it to the quaint town of Salisbury today and took in all the greatness of Stonehenge. All guidebooks say its pretty uninspiring, but as you cal tell from our photos, we were pretty inspired! Really though, I didn't get goosebumps from some eery spirits still hanging around the temple. But I was impressed with the perserverance required to watch sun patterns for years and then spend the time to drag tons of huge rock to a vast open field and set them up to make a calendar. Make me appreciate my watch and all those people with PDAs should be thankful that we've come so far in downsizing technology!
Another thing worthy of mentioning is how much I love the dining experience here. You order your food and drinks at the bar, pay upfront, tell the bartender your table number, sit and enjoy your meal. There's no hassle at the end and no way to ruin the experience by frantically searching for your money in a wallet full of three different types of currency and looking foolish. I dig it.
\Tomorrow is our last day in London and I anticipate we will check out the Natural History museum, check out of our hostel and make our way to the airport to catch a flight to Dublin.
London was and is a great place to start the trip. No language barrier helps ease us into a new country, money and transit system. As expected, I absolutely love the "tube". It's quite a blast figuring out which stop and underground line will get you closest to where you want to be. Maybe I'm simple, but it's a great feeling of mastery when you get where you intended to go.
We have had a few times of misdirection. A particularly memorable one was checking into a hostel in London, and then being assigned to another building about 5-10 minutes walk away. We took the map and without orienting ourselves north/south, we took off in a general direction and after walking 20 minutes will fully loaded backpacks and not finding the cross street to turn onto, a nice Londoner pointed us back to where we started. So a short walk turned into a 40 minute backpack carrying workout. There's a funny picture of frustrated Jessie that sums it up nicely.
Other than that, we've been successful thus far. We're starting to book hostels and will book our Eurail passes in advance so it prevents us from having to run, literally, every time we try to board any type of moving vehicle. :)
