Left hotel after breakfast (as included in room price) and drove out to " The Wolf's Lair", Hitler's base from 1941-1944. Obviously not much left as the
Nazis blew it up on retreat. Amazingly huge area though and the thickness of the concrete was amazing. It has been left since the war so now looks like a bombed town which I guess it is. He was certainly safe from the enemy there but don't know how he got on with the mosquitoes. They were terrible as it is quite thick forest and damp. I guess if your living and working quarters are solid concrete bunkers you're pretty safe from the mozzies but can't say much for vitamin D deficiency. After a very interesting look around we headed for Malbork. Had a bit of trouble as ken the gps didn't recognize the new motorway and kept telling us to turn around. We knew where we were going as could follow the signs but they dried up after a while so put our faith in ken. What an experience. At least we can say we've seen extreme rural Poland. We were on tiny narrow roads that I'm sure we're still damaged from the nazis retreating. Either that or the soviet tanks. Our bones were well and truly rattled. Eventually made it to Malbork and found our hotel, which is actually part of the castle compound. Stephen was very impressed as you all know by now how excited he gets by castles.
