We arrived in Cairns after our short flight from Alice Springs. We did not do much on the 1st day here except book the trips for the following 2 days and watch ' Children of Men' at the movies - pretty good. Our first excursion was on the Karunda scenic railway. This was a 1 and 3/4 hour trip to the village of Karunda. The scenery was fantastic as we wove our way up the mountain to our final destination. Kuranda had a very 'hippy' feel about it but Jo Dolittle wanted another trip to visit the animals in particular to have her photo taken holding a Koala - very cute (Jo not the Koala !!) We also vitited another butterfly park and fed loads of parrots in the bird sancuary. We then made our way back to Cairns via one of the longest cable car rides ever (7.5km) over the rainforest. The next day saw us catch the 8.30am boat to Green Island which is 45mins from Cairns. After complimentory tea and coffee and loads of free biscuits mmmmm we decided to take the free snorkel gear instead of a trip on a glass bottomed boat and what a good decision that turned out to be. We had only been in the water 5mins when we saw the 1st of the days sharks swimming 40ft from the shore. On our second trip we saw another shark and a huge turtle as well as many other fish - Can't wait to go diving now.
