Stephen and Jo Planet Earth...
We are still in Kuching, Borneo as we have found an amazing hostel and there is lots to do around here. First stop was the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the centre is not actually rehabilitating any orangutans anymore but the ones that have been released occasionally come back to the centre to feed. After a little creeping through the forest on our tiptoes (they are very shy apparantly) we heard the trees crashing around and they swung into view, it was fantastic and as they only exsist in the wild in Borneo and Sumatra its a once in a lifetime sighting!
We also went to Bako National Park, there are so many around here its hard to pick which to go to. We arrived by longboat and picked an easy trek-or so we thought! Hard work in the heat but we saw wild Macaque monkeys, probiscus monkeys (the ones with the obscene noses) a highly venomous green pit viper snake-and a bearded pig, strange thing!
In between spotting the wildlife, we admit we are suffering from "travellers apathy" and needed to make plans for the next leg of our journey. We had the idea to go to Japan for 2 weeks as we are ahead of schedule (that doesn't mean we are coming home early!) but after a day trying to organise accomodation/flights etc we gave in, it was going to cost a fortune and we couldn't find a place to stay in Kyoto. We also found the Lonely Planet Australia guide in the hostel, which wetted our appetite for getting to Oz so I rearranged the flights and we are flying to Perth on Tuesday-Tony and Myra will have a shock we are almost a month early!
Off to "Top Spot Food Court" tonight to pick a lobster for tea, its a massive area on top of a car park that sells fantastic fresh sea food- we will give the local dish a miss, fish bladders!
