I am absolutely exhausted. Travelling around quickly is definitely catching up with me - my feet are swollen and walking is becoming really difficult, I have a sore throat and I feel extremeeeeeeeely tired. Just gotta try and tough it out for another few weeks and then I will be able to settle down in Poland for a few months!
Today was VERY busy. We arrived in Washington D.C and managed to see a ridiculous amount of things in a very short amount of time. D.C definitely isn't what I expected. I mean of course we haven't seen much of it because we haven't been here long - but it's not as city-ish as I expected. There is a looott of green open spaces and buildings are a lot lower than in New York. The architecture here is again CRAZY but different again to New York because there are just lots of very massive Greek/Roman style buildings for all of the government and admin stuff. The whole area we are staying in is just built up of these great and incredibly detailed buildings!
We saw a lot of things today. Here is a quick list (it's gone midnight here and I'm super tired):
- The White House: not really as cool as I expected. It's just a giant big white house…
- Washington Monument: this is pretty awesome and tall!! But it's currently covered in scaffolding. There is a sign nearby talking about the earthquake here in 2011 and explains the damage that it caused. That was really interesting because I'd never heard of there being an earthquake in D.C! It was quite big too - I think around 5.4?
- National World War II Memorial: this was pretty and there were heaps of nice fountains everywhere :)
- Lincoln Memorial: This was AMAZING! It was absolutely huge and there were amazing quotes everywhere! The Lincoln Statue is huge and it was so cool standing at this place and thinking about the historical moments that have taken place right there.
- Martin Luther King, Roosevelt and Jefferson memorials: these were all quite similar as they, whilst were still HUGEEE, were a fraction smaller than the Lincoln memorial - but it was really nice walking around them all, reading all the famous quotes etc. The memorials are all placed alongside a big lake so it's a pretty walk and there's lots to see
- Capital Building (and Supreme Court, Library of Congress): IS HUGE! And so pretty. There is a nice lake in front of it so we took heaps of pictures :)
- Heaps of other random buildings such as department of commerce, a fancy treasury building and so on. They are all really cool because they are all designed in a fancy old Greek way!
I'm sorry this blog entry is so brief I just so tired! The only reason I've managed to write a blog at all is because I'm waiting for my washing to finish. Tomorrow we have to get up really early to catch the bus back to New York and then we fly out to Iceland! Everything is so crazy at the moment. I really can't wait to arrive in Poland. The first thing I'm going to do is just empty my bag all over the floor and leave it there for like three days JUST because I know I don't have to move room again sometime super soon.
Tip of the Day: Washington D.C. has HEAPPPS of free museums. If you're coming here definitely allocated a few days to these because there are some really cool ones such as the Museum of American History, American Indians, Air and Space, Natural History, US Holocaust, as so on.
P.s. I know this blog seems mopey but I am actually having heaps of fun. I just need a good snooze and a new pair of feet :)

Aunty Claire Glad you enjoyed DC Hun no matter how brief it was. Sounds like you need to slow down a little. Make sure you rest up on your flight to Iceland and try to give your feet a soak in cool water at some point. Love you millions and take care xxxx
